Gaining a sense of space without adding square metres usually comes down to proportion and one colour decision.
The most common mistake in small spaces is shrinking everything. In fact a few large pieces read more generously than many small ones.
1. Use one floor material
Changing material on the floor visually cuts the space. Running one material without a break makes the area look larger than it is.
2. Paint walls and joinery the same colour
Skirting, doors and walls in the same tone reduce the number of lines the eye catches on.
3. Hang curtains from the ceiling
The track belongs just under the ceiling, not above the window. This single move reads as 20–30 cm of extra height.
4. Hide the storage
Prefer handleless cabinets flush with the wall over open shelving.
5. Place the mirror correctly
A mirror should catch light from the side, not sit directly opposite the window.
6. Layer the lighting
Instead of one ceiling fitting, use three layers: ambient, task and accent.
7. Choose one focus
Do not decorate every wall equally. A single focal point lets the eye rest.
